CycloDS Evolution Firmware v1.55
| Posted By:
Guyfawkes
@ 14 September 2009 - 03:11 PM |
|
A new firmware for what is in my opinion the best DS flashcart available has been released. Changes in this version are: * DSL/DSi hybrid games are now supported (3938, 3949)
* New view mode: sort by last played
* "argv" information passed to homebrew software
* Added the ability to customise the enhanced menu button trigger via config.xml
* After an in-game reset, the last game played will be selected in the game list
* Fixed Wii connectivity for Pokemon Platinum
* While traversing directories, the position of the selection in parent directories is remembered (instead of the selection being reset to the first entry each time you return to a parent directory)
* New config.xml options for setting the root directory for the game list, and customising the executable launched when "Media" is selected from the main menu (so you can select between Moonshell 1, Moonshell 2 etc)
* Soft reset is now supported under Moonshell 2, and Moonshell 2 has been made the default media player
* Fixed intermittent freezing issue with GTA:CTW
* Game compatibility fixes (3538, 3607, 3812, 3872, 3874, 3960, 3966, 4125) You can download the firmware here. You can read our review of the CycloDS Evolution here and purchase it here.

Acekard 2i firmware update to work with DSi v1.4
| Posted By:
Guyfawkes
@ 18 August 2009 - 11:19 AM |
Acekard have released a new update for the AK2i which works with the recent v1.4 update by Nintendo which blocked all flashcarts. In the download there are two files:
ak2ifw_update_14_DSi.nds - Use this to upgrade just the one Acekard 2i.
ak2ifw_update_14_DSL.nds - Use this to upgrade multiple Acekard 2i without needing to switch off the DSi.
Remember, DO NOT update the DSi firmware until you have installed the updated AK2i firmware or you will not be able to upgrade. Upgrade the AK2i firmware first, then the DSi firmware. You can download the Acekard 2i firmware here. You can purchase the Acekard 2i from Gamekool.
[UPDATE] More places to download the firmware, sorry I cannot host the file here as it contains copyright code.

DSi homebrew hack information released
| Posted By:
Guyfawkes
@ 03 August 2009 - 09:56 AM |
Drunken Coders has posted information on a DSi hack that lets you run DSi homebrew software. Currently the space is very limited so only small software will work but this hack could open opportunities to run software from SD card instead (like the Wii). To use this hack you will need to build WinterMutes ClassicHack source code and get eepinator which lets you upload the built ClassicHack .sav file to your game cart. The full details can be found via Drunken Coders here.

M3i Zero Sakura review delayed
| Posted By:
Guyfawkes
@ 31 July 2009 - 05:43 PM |
With the recent news that the DSi v1.4 firmware blocks all DSi flashcarts we have decided to delay our review of the M3i Zero Sakura. The reason is that the M3i has an upgradeable firmware which according to the makers is made just for the reason to bypass such firmware updates by Nintendo. Up until now these have been claims by manufacturers and never been proven so now we can actually see if their claims are true. As a result we will delay the review until either M3i release a firmware update or we run out of patience and post the worst scoring review ever More news when we get it.

DSi firmware v1.4 blocks flash carts - Do NOT update your DSi firmware
| Posted By:
Guyfawkes
@ 30 July 2009 - 03:38 PM |
A new DSi firmware update has been released which has measures to block currently available DSi flash carts. Do NOT update your DSi firmware until there is confirmation that your DSi flash cart is working otherwise you will not be able to use it. Some carts such as the M3i Zero Sakura have upgradeable firmware which when updated should be able to bypass this block, unfortunately some cards do not have this feature and may never work at all with the latest firmware. So again, do NOT update your DSi firmware until there is further news.
Incidentally Smiths is currently writing the M3i Zero Sakura review so this is good timing to see the response of the makers and if their upgradeable firmware actually works.

Team Twiizers DSi homebrew hack video
| Posted By:
Guyfawkes
@ 09 July 2009 - 02:32 PM |
A video on Youtube showing what appears to be an hack to allow homebrew running on the DSi. The Classic Word Games cart is used to activate the exploit, probably because it has a DSi mode in the game, has some wires from it which goes to a PCB. It appears to be something to do with the save file as when the Profile in the game is selected, it starts the exploit and runs a Team Twiizer homebrew demo showing a logo on the top screen. My guess is the wires are connected to the carts save memory and when the memory is being read it is reading the data from whatever is on the PCB. Check out the video via Youtube here.
