movies that are protable would sell. its like takeing your fav movie with you on a long plain trip. dvd's inside a psp would have been way out of the Question... they would have wasted more energy making the unit have less life. and would have made it not so small and nice...
a umd recorder is not going to happen for 1 reasion.
sony dosnt want piracy of there games. if you made a umd recorder then there is a posibility that that recorder could make copys of umd games...
also the memory stick was crippled so that you couldnt encode movies at full rez on the memory stick.... so people would be more apt to buy umd movies.
thats my 2 cents.
imo i wish some piracy happend in a small amount... or at least open dev... if it did the psp would punch up in sails a hell of a lot... but as is it is uncerten what the future brings for the psp.
more then likley TV through subscription based internet streems. like in korea... but that will only work in wi fi hotspots.

sony already thought of that and well they made it so that if u do then the video will not come out as well as dvd format it will come out much worse and how can u fit a 6 gb movie in a 1 gb card?

Would I buy UMD movies? Probably not. I mean, the portability is nice, but why buy a movie twice? If I'm gonna fork over $19.99 for a movie, I'd rather buy the regular DVD and get all the extra features. Or at least I could wait until my birthday or Christmas and ask for some UMDs...

Meh, i'd rather have a renewable media that i can use for movies and mp3s and photos then pay $20+ for every movie i wanna watch, for the price of 5 movies i can watch an unlimited numper of shows and movies reguardless of if sony wants to pay for the rights to put it on umds.. Atleast with a duo card even after the psp is old i could get a sony camera and still use my card. i'm not banking on sony manking a home umd player.

I am sure they will code it so that it will only play UMD movies and not able to copy movies or games but as always nothing is 100% secure so someone like me will crack the code and reflash the system firmware.
The so called "Quality" is dependant on how many Frames Per Second are run, the program I use to convert a DVD lets me select how many FPS (typically 29 with 16kbs stereo audio) I want to convert a DVD to, this works well, lots of Futurama fit on a 1Gb Mem stick pro Duo.
A 1GB VTS file is encrypted at 29 FPS @ 16Kbs stereo audio into around 260Mb
If you encrypt in 10 FPS at 4Kb mono not only does it look crap all jumping around but it sounds all digitized!
So its the number of FPS that make a good clear sharp pic on ur PSP and as a result ur file size may be larger.
So there!

So ya, theres really no reason to go out and buy a UMD movie thats probably 10+ years old and pay $19.99 for it when you can just rent as many as you want and convert em for half the price. BUT.... If sony released a UMD movie at the SAME time the movie was released in theatres... then it would be tempting to buy it.

What software are u using to convert, how do you transfer to the PSP, and how much can be stored on the PSP (or mem stick...however they are being ported), for say long long car trips where more than 1 movie is an order?
Sorry, that's more like 3 questions. I am just trying to do a little research before I go wasting my money on a bunch of UMDs that I already have on DVD.
Info is much obliged!
