The first Wii modchip has been announced and will be ready to ship on February 1st. It features:
- Run your own region (PAL/NTSC) backups directly
- 5 Cables to solder
- Easy Installation
- Modchip not upgradable
I can confirm the modchip is real as I have been in contact with the developers for a few weeks and they should shortly be uploading a video to prove it. In the meantime you can check out the photos of the modchip below. I will update with more news soon once I get to speak to the developers again.

[UPDATE] I have spoke to the developers and they have confirmed the two videos of the modchip are real, you can view them here and here. I should also have some brand new photos of the modchip sometime soon.

I checked with the makers and they said the videos are real (they uploaded them) so I have updated the first post with the links.

Yes, everybody is talking about this chip and it appears to be real.
Anyway it's supposed to go on sale in less then a week, and we'll find out for sure.
I think I'll be waiting for an advanced mod that will let me play other region's backups, otherwise it's not worth it.
And I am not in the rush either, the next game that I WILL BUY is Metroid Prime 3, I will leave mod chips for my spare time...

Can someone confirm this if the response is true? (via www.wii-volution.com)

Mod chips are a dangerous venture, considering it will only take a firmware upgrade to knock ur Wii from playing any games...

Not really... It's a Drive Chip, so the firmware updates capable through Connect24 aren't able to touch this area of the machine.
It's possible that a new version of the firmware of the drive will be implemented in future builds of the Wii, but they can only do that at the factory when the machine is being built.
This does the same thing that current XBox360 chips do, and Microsoft can't create a firmware update to disallow those either.

Has anyone ordered one yet? I'm tempted to put in my order at wiinjanorthamerica.com, but the site looks a bit sketchy...

It's on the list of resellers on the wiinja homepage but I would be careful as with any new store in case there are problems.

No they can't disallow, but they can and are detecting if you are using the chips.. And if you are, your console ID is perm banned from Xbox Live..
But that can also be avoid, if you just don't sign on to xbox live at all..

Ha, sorry for bringing up an old post, but I can confirm 110% that the wiinja is legit and works fine. I tried it out a few months when it became available and it still works for playing backups. Then again, I don't think they make/sell them anymore. It was easy to put in, and just takes a couple firmware updates to function.
