First what emulator are you using? As we can do nothing to help you until then,
Is this the first rom you have tried to play?

I have the same problem. The screen goes white and it goes from 100% load back to 96% and stays on the white screen. I had tried other games and they work. Every pokemon I try doesnt. I even tried one sent by my friend and it worked for him but not for me, it just showed that white screen again. I have tried many different emulators. I am using VisualBoyAdvance currently though. I need help, could this be something wrong with the emulator settings that need to be changed to work correctly.

This is the guest that just posted above. I found out how to fix the problem. Ill post it below

Certain games require specific save settings that need to be set manually. Otherwise, errors in in-game (battery) saves may occur or "white screens" may be encountered during emulation.

The simplest solution is to place a vba-over.ini configuration file in the same directory as your emulator. The file automatically configures the save type settings for most common games. You can download a copy of this file here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/uay5uq. The default save settings must be set in VBA for this file to work (go to Options -> Emulator -> Save Type -> Automatic and Options -> Emulator -> Save Type -> Flash 64K). If you have existing save files, you may need to delete, move, or rename them to allow the save configuration to work.

I'll explain it in simpler terms.
Let's re-read over the directions.

The simplest solution is to place a vba-over.ini configuration file in the same directory as your emulator. The file automatically configures the save type settings for most common games.
You can download a copy of this file here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/uay5uq. The default save settings must be set in VBA for this file to work.
(go to Options -> Emulator -> Save Type -> Automatic and Options -> Emulator -> Save Type -> Flash 64K).
If you have existing save files, you may need to delete, move, or rename them to allow the save configuration to work.

What they're technically saying is that before downloading vba_over.ini (the answer to your troubles) you need to make sure Visual Boy Advance has it's default save setting set. Like so.

Posted Image

Make sure that the vba_over.ini file is in the root directory of your Visual Boy Advance emulator's folder.

Posted Image

Open the vba_over.ini file and search for the rom you're trying to run. The Pokemon Emerald i'm trying to play is the (U) version. So I scrolled down to it.

Posted Image

I renamed the rom to be look the same way as the vba_over.ini's name. Like so. (I tried to copy and paste the exact name from the vba_over.ini file to the rom's name but it doesn't work since colons (:) are not accepted in filenames. So just use a dash. Apparently it works after that.

Posted Image

Because you renamed your rom for this to work, rename any existing save files you had before.
Don't worry, it'll work with the emulator.

My pokemon emerald rom was named "Pokemon Emerald.gba" before. Because it was named this way, it didn't work.
But now that I've named it "1986 - Pokemon Emerald Version (U).gba" it will work.

I hope my images helped you out.
Good luck.

Damn you are great at solving this problem. The step-by-step how-to does clear every question there is to be made.
Thanks for improving my GBA and .rom knowledge. You have been a great help.

I went through your directions, and they were easy enough to follow, but nothing happened to the game. I still get the 1M circuit board message and the exchange backup memory message in leaf green. Any other ways to fix this?
